About Bamboo Panda
A small Auckland importing business: one partner mill, six ranges, and core stock held here in Mount Eden. We have been doing the same thing since 2017 and we have no plans to do anything else.
How the business started
Bamboo Panda began in 2017 supplying bamboo babywear to a handful of independent baby and maternity retailers around Auckland. The pitch was simple: the fabric sold itself once a parent had touched it, and nobody in the market was importing it directly at a price that left a proper margin for the store.
That has not really changed. We have added five more ranges and a great deal more stock, and we now ship across the Tasman as well, but the model is identical. We buy direct from one mill, we hold the core lines in Auckland, and we sell to shops rather than to the public.
We do not sell direct to consumers
This is deliberate and permanent. We will not put a webstore up and compete with the retailers who took a risk on the brand. If a member of the public emails us wanting to buy, we send them to their nearest stockist.
Where the product comes from
We import on our own account. There is no agent or trading house between us and the factory, which is the entire reason the pricing works.
Our garments are manufactured in China. Our principal partner mill and its cut-make-trim facility sit under one factory group, and we have worked with that group since 2017. We visit in person, and we deal with the same production manager we started with.
Working with one group rather than shopping the order around every season is slower to set up and much better afterwards. They know our blocks, our tolerances and our colour standards. When something is wrong, it gets fixed rather than argued about.
Every production run is measured against spec and wash-tested for shrinkage before it is released to the container. We publish our tolerance, and we will not ship a run that fails it.

Wash-tested
Fabric is pre-shrunk before make-up. Our specification to the mill is no more than 3% on length over five washes.
Imported direct
Sea freight to Auckland in our own name as importer of record, customs cleared and into our stock.
Held in Mount Eden
Core lines are stocked here in Auckland, so a reorder is a few days away rather than a season away.

Bamboo Panda Limited is a privately held company registered in New Zealand, based and operating in Auckland. Alongside its founding shareholders, the company is backed by Unicorn India Ventures.
Our registration is a matter of public record on the New Zealand Companies Register. We provide our NZBN and company number on request, and with any credit or supplier onboarding paperwork.
